Herbert I. McLean, 90, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009.
He was born July 23, 1918 in Brandon (Douglas), Manitoba, Canada to Archibald and Agnes Maude Sloan McLean.
Herbert served as an aircraft mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II before immigrating to the United States to begin his career as an accountant. He retired after 38 years from St. Regis/Champion Paper. In his spare time he liked to tinker and could fix anything.
On August 5, 1947 he married Carol Elma Edwards in Taber, Alberta Canada. They were residents of Tacoma, Washington for 62 years.
His passing on Father''s Day is an appropriate closure to an accomplished life as a loving and patient light to his children and constant companion to his wife. With his wife, he provided his children wings to find the heights of their possibilities and roots to remain mindful of the values that guide our lives.
Herbert is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; five children, Rodney (Sofia) McLean, CA; Paul (Nanette) McLean, IN; Lorna (Rick) Lessey, UT; Bruce (Barbara) McLean , TX; Matthew (Dana) McLean, VA; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Kimley.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the West Point Cemetery.
His family wishes to thank the many family and long-time friends who loved him and the staff at Manor Care for their compassionate care.
