Herman “Herm” M. Gammell
OGDEN – Herman Marvin Gammell, 88, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home.
He was born June 24, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Frederick Wayne and Myrtle Evelyn Noble Gammell. He was raised and educated in Des Moines where he graduated from high school. He lived in Iowa, California and Utah.
On January 26, 1942, Herm married Helen Mae Dare in Bethany, Missouri.
He was very proud to have served his country as a B-24 Pilot with the 455th Bombardment Group in World War II, completing 35 combat missions and never losing one man. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Herm worked in the banking and aerospace industries and retired after many years as a management executive from Parker-Hannifin Corp.
He was a member of the Pasadena Church of God in Pasadena, California and served on the Board of Trustees. In Utah, he was a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church.
He was an avid reader. He also enjoyed family visits and family road trips throughout the western states and Canada, hiking, fishing, tennis, golf and playing the stock market!
Herm was beloved and respected by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Surviving are one son and one daughter, Jeffrey Wayne Gammell, Ogden; Christy Elaine Pinyoun, Ogden, UT/New Britain, CT; several grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother and sister-in-law, Nobe and Shirley Gammell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herm was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Mae Gammell and one sister, Dane Smith.
Family graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
