Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Holger Sass, 75, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, May 2, 2014.  He was born in Luebeck, Germany on September 17, 1938 to Friedrich and Heidi Ront Sass.  In 1952 Holger immigrated to Utah with his mother and two brothers.  Holger lived in Ogden the remainder of his life.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life and served in various callings including in three Bishoprics and Branch President of the Washington Terrace nursing home.  He served a mission in the North East states.

Holger married his sweetheart, Joy Sass, on July 30, 1965 in Logan, Utah.  They were married for 48 wonderful years. Together they raised three sons.

He worked as an environmental inspector for Weber County Health Department.

Holger loved taking scenic photographs and was a member of the Ogden Color Camera Club and won many awards.  He took pleasure in listening to classical music.  Holger and Joy enjoyed traveling and visiting many of the States.  He played the goalie on his soccer team for the Utah Soccer League of Ogden.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family and enjoyed hiking and camping with them.

Holger is survived by his wife, Joy Sass, Washington Terrace; sons, Derek (Robin) Washington Terrace; David (Shari), Spanish Fork; and Kevin, Ogden; six grandchildren, and brother, Juergen Sass, Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Alexis; and brother, Ingo “James R.”

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 6 ^th Ward, 4760 South 200 East.  Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
