Homer Robert Dodgen, affectionately known as Bob or Robert, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at Ogden Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. His family was by his side.
Born August 12, 1938, in Green River, Wyoming, Bob was the eldest of four children of Homer Roy and Hazel Marie Jones Dodgen. Raised and schooled in Green River, Bob’s father passed away at an early age, and after he had graduated from high school, Bob worked at his father’s automotive shop as a mechanic. Eventually, his mom resettled their family in Ogden.
Bob joined the US Navy and served honorably during the Korean War. After the war, he came home and got married to Janet Sarah Hoskins. They raised three children together, Robert John, Christine Danette, and Candace Sara. Bob and Janet later divorced. He then married Cherie Hurst on New Years Eve in 1999 in Green River and they were together for 19 years before she passed away.
During his working life, Bob was primarily a sheet metal worker for Holbrook Sheet Metal in Kaysville.
Bob pursued his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, camping, and horseback riding. He was a devoted father and grandfather, teaching what he knew and after retirement pursuing his dream to be a farmer. He loved his horses, goats, and other critters, and will be remembered as a hardworking man who put his family first and loved spending time with them.
Bob will be remembered most for his willingness to serve – if he was needed, he was there.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert John Dodgen, Riverdale; daughter, Candace Sara Baird, Taylor; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter, Christine Slot, who passed in December of 2023; his parents; all of his siblings, including brothers, Norm and Jack Dodgen, and his sister, Karen Hawkins.
Memorial Celebration of Life services will be announced and held at a later date.
The family thanks the staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center for their kind and professional care of our Dad.
