Hope Vallejos Box

May 22, 1976 — February 6, 2025

Hope Vallejos Box passed away on February 6, 2025, in Ogden, Utah, at the age of 48.

She was born on May 22, 1976, to Theresa Lujan and Walter Latham. She was primarily raised in Ignacio, CO, by her grandparents, Florence and Richard Vallejos. In 1993, she became a mother to the first of her three children, a role she cherished throughout her life.

In her early adulthood, Hope had a deep love for horses and riding. She often took her children to local gymkhanas to compete, sharing her passion for equestrian sports. She valued freedom and family above all else and was known for her unwavering dedication to both. Despite the challenges of early motherhood, Hope was determined to further her education. She successfully earned her GED and pursued college courses at San Juan College.

Hope spent many years working as a teller at the First National Bank of Durango before taking a bold step forward in her career—becoming a business owner. She opened The Local in Bayfield, CO, a restaurant and sports bar that combined her love for great food and community. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to providing a welcoming space made a lasting impact on the town.

Hope was known for her fierce passion and strong humanitarian values. She had a generous heart, always willing to help those in need, even at her own expense. Whether it was checking in on friends, rescuing animals or standing up for what she believed was right, she could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

Faith was also an important part of Hope’s life. During difficult times, she found solace in her relationship with God. In her early adulthood, she was a devoted Carmelita at the St. Ignatius Church in Ignacio, where she worked diligently to serve her community.

Hope is survived by her three children, Morgann Graham, Jakob Box, and Noah Box; her first grandchild, Thorin Graham; and her mother, Theresa Lujan. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Latham; her grandparents, Florence and Richard Vallejos; and her grandmother, Verna Dow.

A private burial will be held, with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
