Horace N. Rumsey SOUTH OGDEN – Horace Nestor Rumsey, 97, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Washington Terrace Health Services. He was born January 16, 1912 in Romeo, Conejos, Colorado, a son of David Virdel and Lillie Mae Culler Rumsey. On September 26, 1936, Horace married Alice S. White in Sanford, Conejos, Colorado. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Alice preceded him in death on October 11, 2004. He was raised and educated in San Luis Valley, Colorado where he lived until 1945. He then moved to South Ogden where he resided for the rest of his life. Horace was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a High Priest. He served in several Bishoprics, on the Stake High Council, Ward Clerk, sang in the Ward Choir for many years and was a temple ordinance worker. He and his wife served two missions for the LDS Church. He taught school in Colorado and then for the Ogden City School District for 37 years. He served as President of the Ogden Teachers Association. He obtained a Masters of Science degree. Horace was an active member of the South Ogden Kiwanis Club serving a term as President. He enjoyed playing checkers, stamp and coin collecting, gardening and traveling. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Allen H. (Janice) Rumsey, Sunset; Dale V. (Micki) Rumsey, South Ogden; Alice Faye (Kermit) Price, Casper, WY; 18 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Leonard (Mildred) Rumsey, Hooper. Preceding Horace in death were his wife Alice, two children, two grandchildren, his parents, and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ogden 49thWard Chapel, 4210 South 300 West, Riverdale. Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
