HOWARD PINGREE KENDELL 08-09-28/03-25-11

Beloved husband, brother, step-father and best friend, Howard Pingree Kendell of Roy, Utah, completed his time on this earth and left for a better place on Friday, March 25, 2011. He died of complications of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

Howard was born August 9, 1928 in South Weber, Utah. His parents were Henry Timothy and Stella Patterson Kendell.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1946. Howard was a member of the LDS Church and proudly served in the Northern States/Great Lakes mission field from November, 1948 through December, 1950.

Howard joined the United States Naval Reserve in early 1951 and served as a medic on active duty stationed in San Diego, California from 1952 through 1954. After returning home, he attended the University of Utah.

Howard had a long and varied working career. In his childhood through most of the years of his life, he worked side-by-side with his mother and father, brother, Fred, and sister, Bernice on the family farm in South Weber, Utah. The Kendell tomatoes and corn were known far and wide as the very best. He had worked at Marquart and Boeing, and retired from Hill Air Force Base in December 1989, after 29 A½ years. Being a person who needed to remain active, he then worked part-time as a runner for the Bank of Utah for the next five years. He also volunteered his time and driving skills to The Ride of Ogden.

Though Howard was married more than once, he finally hit the jackpot when he met the love of his life, Nancy Lee Telford Barron. They were married in Reno, Nevada on August 4, 1979. Together they had 31 wonderful years of working alongside each other on various projects and taking many, many trips to Las Vegas and Mesquite to pursue one of Howard''s favorite pass-times a€" playing "his" slot machines.

Howard had a beautiful baritone singing voice. As a 14 year old, he sang a solo in the Salt Lake Tabernacle at the Semi-Annual General Conference. Howard, his brother, Fred, and sister, Bernice, were in great demand for singing engagements at many weddings and funerals. There was one month where they sang at 56 different functions.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Louise, and brothers Grant Alexander Kendell and Fred Henry Kendell. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his sister, Bernice, and one step-son, Russell T. Barron and Russell''s family of six children and four grandchildren. Also surviving are a special nephew, Fred W. Kendell, and numerous nieces.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. The family will meet friends at the mortuary one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Kendell family plot at the Uintah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Howard through donations in his name to either Best Friends Animal Society, PO Box 315, Kanab, UT 84741-0315 or the LDS Church Missionary Fund.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the nurses and doctors of McKay-Dee Hospital who fought so valiantly to save Howard''s life, and who were so very comforting and caring to Nancy during a very difficult time.

We are thinking of you with love today, But that is nothing new. We thought of you yesterday And the days before that too. Your memory is our keepsake From which we''ll never part. God has you in his keeping. We will always have you in our hearts.
