Howard George Perry

Howard George Perry, devoted father, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great- grandpa, passed away shortly after midnight February 7, 2013 in Layton, Utah. He was born in LaGrande, Oregon April 23, 1924, to George Washington Perry and Ethel Westenskow and was raised in Holladay, Utah. A graduate of Granite High School, class of 1942, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp shortly after marrying Elizabeth Bernice Kirton, January 17, 1943. When he returned from his military service in India, a little toddler, and twin babies were waiting for him. One year later Steve, was born, and 11 years later, Gregory. Being sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake Temple, September 4, 1959, fortified their faith through the trial of Gregory''s death at age 9.

During the Indian Placement Program they shared their home with Virgil Bentley from the Navajo Nation.

Howard resided in Kaysville and Farmington for 65 years, recently moving to Apple Tree Assisted Living. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974, graduated from LDS Business College in 1976, and served in the Washington DC Mission with his eternal companion 1976-1978. In 2006 he retired from the Farm Management Division of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Howard was a dedicated caregiver to Bernice through her battle with cancer which ended August 31, 1985. He married Annavar Laura Castano September 2, 1987 which provided her five children, Laura Jean Worthen, Rebecca and Paul Hatch, Lisa Gubler, Amy Castano, and James Castano, with a stalwart father figure.

He simultaneously served Laura and his mother as faithful caregiver until their deaths in 2001 and 1998 respectively. Also preceding him in death was his father in 1948 and his sister, Helen Campbell, in 1972.

He is survived by children, Nancy and Donald Woodward, Kaysville; Lorna and Don Bird, Sandy; Linda and Richard Watts, Sandy; Steven and Dawnetta Perry, St. George; 20 grandchildren, 52 great- grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, plus 13 additional grandchildren and 14 additional great grandchildren, and a sister, Norma Adams, Delta, Utah.

He attended special family events and family was not forgotten on birthdays or Christmas.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and among his many callings was a Bountiful Temple Ordinance Worker in his later years.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
