December 2, 1936 ~ February 13, 2017

Howard Don Sharp, 80, of Mountain Green, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 13, 2017.

A lifelong Ogden native, Don was born here on December 2, 1936 to Howard Byron and Erma Tucker Sharp.

A graduate of Ogden High School Class of 1955, Don went on to earn both his Bachelor of Science Degree and ultimately his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Utah in 1967.

A charter member in 1959 of the 19th Special Forces Airborne Group, Don was a Utah Army National Guardsman and in addition to jumping out of perfectly good airplanes he served as a Scuba Diving Instructor and logged many hours on dive trips to both the North and South Pacific as well as the Atlantic Oceans and throughout the Caribbean Sea.

After graduating the first time from the University of Utah in 1962 Don moved to San Francisco where he earned his CPA Certificate.  In 1964 he returned to Utah and began law school.  Following his graduation in 1967 he maintained a private law practice until 2016.  Don was grateful for the opportunity to serve his many clients over the years and developed many wonderful and meaningful relationships with friends and the community as an outgrowth of his service.

Don married Joyce Randall in 1959. They divorced after 10 years but remained good friends.  He later married Ellen Wallace Snow.  They had one daughter, Dawnell, and later divorced. In 1981 Don married Carolyn Olsen. They divorced but remained loving friends.

Don was closely affiliated with the Snow Basin Ski Team, having served on the Board of Directors for 6 years and for 2 years as President. His three grandchildren, Jaden, Brody, and Hanna all skied for the Snow Basin Ski Team.

Golf, skiing, and scuba diving were Don’s favorite hobbies.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawnell (Todd) Sharp Nielsen, Roy; grandchildren, Jaden (Yvonne) Nielsen, Ogden and Brody and Hanna Nielsen, both of Roy; three great-grandchildren, Ava, Caleb, and Chanel Nielsen; and by his sister, Sherilyn Coates, Cokeville, WY; five stepchildren, Scott Webre, Steven Olsen, Anthony Olsen, Kelly  Snow, and Tracy Moon.  Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Don credits AA for giving him an additional 27 wonderful years of life. Additionally he thanks his daughter Dawnell, grandson Jaden; sister Sherilyn Coates, and Carolyn Sharp for their loving care.

At Don’s request no funeral arrangements will be held.  A private golf tournament will be held in the spring for Don’s family, friends, and former clients at Mount Ogden Golf Club.  Even if you don’t plan to golf, please join us and share with us your memories of Don.  Cremation arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
