Howard loved working in his yard, raising a garden, and sharing it with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, especially in the Book Cliffs and Dillon, Montana. Most of all, he loved his family and especially his little great-grandchildren.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of Ogden 8th Ward for 51 years.
