In Loving Memory
Hyla Mae Robson Bartholomew
Hyla Mae Robson Bartholomew, 92, loving wife, mother and grandmother, returned to the open arms of her Heavenly Father on January 24, 2017, after a stroke.
Hyla was born in Ogden, Utah on December 8, 1924 to Ralph Everett Robson and Amy Trean Folkman, the oldest of six children. She grew up on a dairy farm in Plain City, Utah and graduated from Weber High School in 1943. She attended Weber College and Utah State Agricultural College, graduating in 1947 with a degree in Food and Nutrition, minoring in General Home Economics and Chemistry. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and also graduated from LDS Institute at Utah State.
Hyla and Wesley E. Bartholomew married on January 17, 1947 in Plain City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
In 1964 Hyla returned to college at California State College at Long Beach, earning a teacher’s certificate. She taught home economics at Stanford and Demille Junior High in Long Beach, CA for 13 ½ years. She also taught classes for Davis County Extension Services for 15 years.
As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hyla served her Savior willingly. She served in many callings in Primary, MIA, Cub Scouts, Sunday School and Relief Society. She sang in choirs in San Pedro (CA) and Canyon Woods Wards. She was a faithful and consistent temple patron and a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Those who know Hyla marveled at her ability as an expert seamstress and quilter. She served her family with her sewing abilities and shared that talent with many. She was an avid gardener as evidenced by her beautiful yard in Layton. She spent much time on family history documenting and distributing information found on ancestors, organized family photos and shared them. Hyla loved to travel. She especially loved travelling to Europe, China and Russia, with her brother Kent, who served as tour guide. She and Wesley enjoyed travelling with friends to Alaska and the Panama Canal.
Hyla is survived by her husband Wesley and by children MarJene (Richard), Taylorsville; Lynette (Del), Cedar City; Greg (Radka), San Diego; and Glenn (Becky), Draper; 26 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren and siblings ViraBeth (Mac), Heber City; Cherrill, Roy; Kent (Joan) and Ross (DaNece), all of N. Logan. She is preceded in death by her parents and son Wynn (Carol), Holladay and brother Thayne (Jeanne), Salt Lake City and sister-in-law LouJean and brother-in-law Larry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Woods LDS Chapel,
