Ida Marie Harrington

November 2, 1926 ~ July 31, 2016

Ida was born in Ranchester, Wyoming, the last child of Carroll E. and Laura Short Gorball. Her family moved to Ogden when she was 16 and she graduated from Ogden High in 1945.

Ida researched her ancestry and was a proud Daughter of the American Revolution.

She worked at the Ogden Arsenal, Defense Depot of Ogden, and retired from Hill Air Force Base.

Ida married Leonard E. Harrington on December 22, 1948 in Chula Vista, California where they attended the Rose Bowl Parade. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Leonard passed away 32 years ago. They had three children, Suzanne (Bruce) Parkinson, Carol (Richard Atwood) Harrington, and Leonard D. (Janet Gioffre) Harrington. She has five grandchildren, Joni (Russell Leishman) Harrington, Rod (Stefanie) Harrington, Dominic Gioffré, Jo (Adam) Palmer, Brian (Jason Myers) Nicholls, and five great-grandchildren, Roni Griggs, Aden and Sally Palmer, Ruthie and Leonard A. Harrington. She had many other extended family members she cared for deeply.

She loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherwoman. She was a great traveler; her trips included Korea, Russia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Hawaii and an Alaskan Cruise.

Ida loved flowers, raspberries, dark chocolate and bowling, she continued to bowl even after macular degeneration took her sight. She had been legally blind for 20 years.

Ida was feisty to the very end. We will miss you and your purple cowboy hat.

A very special thank you is extended to Peachtree for their care and love. Also extreme appreciation goes to Comfort Worx Hospice for the tender loving care for us and our beloved mother.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Tuesday, August 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden.
