Ilene Louise Verhaaren Lowe of Stagecoach, Texas has graduated from this earthly life on January 8, 2023. Her generous heart, faithful spirit, love of the ocean, and all things theatre will remain in the memories of those who knew her.
Ilene was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 20, 1948, the daughter of Werner Louis Verhaaren and Francis Lynnette Dalton. She spent her early years in Oakland, California. She attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a BA in Theatre Arts. She met her husband, George Wayne Lowe, while attending university. They were married in the LDS Oakland Temple on December 19, 1970. Throughout their years of marriage, they lived in Utah, California, North Carolina, New York, and Texas. Upon his passing, Ilene then resided in Washington, Utah, and then Texas.
Ilene spent the majority of her life in the service of others and sharing her love of the theatre. She was a mother, wife, and homemaker. She served in many church callings, found ways to minister to others, and loved to direct church “road shows.” As her children grew, she worked as a teacher’s aide, office assistant, and law firm administrative assistant. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Salt Lake City Family History Library, where she assisted many in finding family connections. Her final years were spent living with family due to health issues.
Ilene is survived by son Brett and wife Laura; son G. Scott and wife Angela; daughter Christina; eight grandchildren: Gunnison, Grace, Cannon, Connor, Sophia; Gavin, Drew, and Jamison and her sister Nora Verhaaren Lloyd. Ilene was a loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
