Iola Miconi

Iola Serena Olsen Miconi

October 10, 1918 ~ August 8, 2014

Iola Serena Miconi passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 10, 1918 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Henry “Ole” and Della King Olsen. Her family settled on a farm in Willard, Utah, and later moving to Perry, where she spent her youth. She loved working side by side with her Dad, whom she adored. She was so proud when her Dad would tell people “she’s the boy I never had.” Her father instilled a great love of the outdoors in her at a young age, which continued all of her life.

As a young woman, she worked various jobs. While at DDO, she met and later married the love of her life, Gene Otello Miconi. They started Miconi Tile together, which is still in business today. She took her husband and boys on many fishing and hunting trips while the boys were growing up. Many of these trips were with the Marsh family of which we all have wonderful memories. She enjoyed raising birds and growing any plants that she found interesting. Iola also loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.

She faithfully followed her boys in their sports and continued on with her grandchildren. She loved playing cards and taught all of her grandkids how to play so she would always have a partner.

Iola and Gene were active in the formation, and were the first Presidents of the Saint Joseph Catholic High School Boosters. They traveled extensively and loved snow-birding in Mexico and in Yuma, Arizona.

Iola is survived by three sons and their wives, Gene and Nancy Miconi, Dennis and Peggy Miconi, David and Cynthia Miconi; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, with another one due in January. She is also survived by Gene’s brother, Renato (Luigina); brother-in-law, Nando (Egle), Rome, Italy; many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly, and enjoyed going places and visiting with. She was preceded in death by her husband, baby daughter, Marion, parents and three sisters, Marcia Poulsen, Francis Nelson and Eva Conan, grandson, Nate Miconi, and a very special niece, that she dearly loved, Joyce Marsh.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Manor Care Cambridge Unit, especially nurses, Christi, Jennifer, Katie and Mindy; CNAs, Ena, Stella, Rosa, Katelyn; and may more too numerous to mention. The family also wishes to thank Alex from Symbii Hospice for her kind and compassionate care of our mother.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 24th Street. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
