Iona B. Burton
After having reached her goal to live to be 100, Iona Bedelia Arterburn Burton slipped away peacefully and quietly to be with her Heavenly Father.
She was born December 2, 1907, in Noble, Illinois, to Joseph Byron and Amanda Elizabeth Johnson Martin. A brother Joseph joined their family a few years later. She grew up in Illinois and also Colorado, meeting and marrying Norben C. Arterburn there May 29, 1929. They were blessed with four children, and lived in Idaho and Nevada. They were later divorced. She married John W. Burton on April 28, 1941, in Salt Lake City, where they continued to raise her children, and had one son together. They were also later divorced.
Her life was full of many challenges, but she never complained, always joyfully appreciating the little things. She served faithfully in many callings in all the auxiliaries of the L.D.S. Church, and was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She loved gardening, and was a great cook, making her living at that for many years. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, as well as the many “adopted grandchildren” she used to babysit.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother; a daughter, Ann Jeanette Pearson; and a son, Ivan C. Arterburn. She left a great legacy of faith for her surviving sons, Carroll N. (Jan) Arterburn, Henderson, Nevada; Roland C. (Sylvia) Arterburn, Midvale; and Michael H. (Pat) Burton, Layton; as well as 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, two of whom will get to hug her before their turn on earth.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff of Manor Care and Hospice of Utah for their kind and loving service.
