Our beloved mother, Iona Drake Stoker, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the presence of her daughters, Bonnie and Joy. Mom was born on July 8, 1925 in her grandparent’s home, the third child to Ira Manual and Hazel May Knight Drake.
Mom grew up in Wilson Lane, Utah. She attended Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School where she affectionately acquired the nickname “Duck.”
Iona has lived in Ogden, Roy, Farr West, Utah and Escondido, California.
Mom married John (Jack) Matthew Stoker on August 9, 1947 and later sealed for time and all eternity in the San Diego Temple on November 11, 1993. Dad passed away on June 6, 2008.
Mom had many diversified working skills: she was a seamstress at Utah Tailoring and Paramount Studios is California, a dental assistant, a grocery checker, IRS and HAFB, bank of Utah, and as the bookkeeper at Roy High School.
Iona was a very talented seamstress and sewing was her “passion.” She sewed for herself, family, friends, and anyone needing a garment made or altered. She made everything from baby clothes and blankets to extravagant formals and wedding apparel.
Mom loved people and made lifelong friends wherever she went. She and dad traveled to Italy, Mexico, and Hawaii. Together they enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. She was a proud mother of five children; she was a loving grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mom was an avid and loyal Jazz fan as well as a Roy High Fan.
