Irene May Carlos

In loving memory

Irene May Carlos Porter

June 7th 1940 ~ November 8th 2017

Irene May Carlos returned to her heavenly father on November 8th 2017 at the age of 77.

She was born on June 7th 1940 in Grass Valley California, the daughter of Joseph and Ruby Porter.

She attended Downey High, and Modesto Jr. College in California, later moved to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. She then served a LDS mission in the southern states, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. She was an active member of the church, serving in various callings including church work, librarian, and relief society. She had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ.

She met her sweetheart at a church dance and later married the love of her life Joseph “Hal” Carlos on June 21st 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple and sealed for time and all eternity. They had four children, Nancy Ann Rogers, Kathy Carlos, (Kiera Snow) Carolee Nelson, and Jeffery Carlos. Throughout the fifty years of marriage they were the best of friends and enjoyed growing old together.

She had several hobbies that she enjoyed, cooking, sewing, scrapbooking, gardening, and was quite the painter. She loved to get her hair done, and nails painted by her grandchildren. Watching the Utah Jazz play often left her on the edge of her seat in excitement or distress. She enjoyed playing the piano, and teaching her children to play. She also enjoyed playing the organ in church. She always had a smile on her face and was beloved by all. She had a heart of gold and selflessly gave to all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Irene adored her grandchildren.  They were the light of her life, always putting a smile on her face when she saw them especially during story time.

She is survived by her husband, 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great -grandchildren.

           “I’m Free”

Don’t grieve for me, for

Now I’m free

I’m following the path

God has laid you see.

I took His hand when I

Heard him call

I turned my back and left

It all.

I could not stay another day

To laugh, to love, to work, to play.

Tasks left undone must

Stay that way

I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss

Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

A special thanks to South Davis Community Hospital and all their Wonderful Staff that took care of Mom and treated her with kindness and compassion and grace. You touched our hearts and comforted our spirits during the darkest moments of our lives. With your comforting touch, you eased her pain and our father’s breaking heart. You were my families’ angels.
