Irene Burton Fausett, age 90, a long-time resident of Washington Terrace and recently of Brigham City, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2012.
Irene was born in Levan, Utah on March 16, 1922 to George C. and Clara LaVer Burton. She was the first of fourteen children, ten of whom are still living. On June 17, 1939, she was married to Maurice G. Fausett in Price, Utah; they were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 15, 1947. They settled in Washington Terrace to raise their family. As time went on, and their health began to decline, the couple moved to Brigham City in 2005, where their youngest daughter, Jami Runyan, lived with and cared for them.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Irene served in many callings. She spent time as a Relief Society president, a Primary teacher, and Primary president. She served in the girls'' Mutual Improvement Association (and later the Young Women program) for thirty years, and considered her time there as one of the great honors of her life.
Irene worked at Sperry Rand for many years, and later transferred to Hill Air Force Base, where she worked in aircraft avionics assembly. Her greatest accomplishment as part of her career was the years she spent running the Sub for Santa program. Every January, she began selling candy to raise money, and spent the year planning and saving for Christmastime, when she was able to provide many children with joyous holiday memories.
When she wasn''t busy serving her community or her church, Irene was serving her family. She tied baby quilts and sewed pajamas for her grandchildren when they were small. As they grew up, she crocheted afghans which she bestowed as wedding presents to all her married grandchildren. She made porcelain dolls, which she proudly displayed in her home, and then lovingly gave away to her children and grandchildren.
Irene spent her life in service, and taught by example to love as the Savior did. The guiding principle of her life was her faith in the gospel, and her knowledge of the Plan of Salvation.
She is survived by her children, Maurene (Tom) Burton, Lynette (Duane) Nye, Terry (Mellody) Fausett, Rick (Eileen) Fausett, Carollyn Fausett (Cory, deceased), and Jami Runyan; 35 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, infant son, William, and son, Cory.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 7th 2:00 p. m. at Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will meet with friends on Tues. from 6 to 8 p. m. and Wed. From 12:30 to 1:30 p. m. at the mortuary.
