FARR WEST – Irene Grow Groberg, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 at her home. She was born on March 7, 1926 in Ogden. Irene’s parents were John Leonard and Sarah Ethel Randall Grow. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Ray Groberg on July 2, 1945, in the Logan LDS Temple. Stan passed away on February 7, 2012.
She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. She loved music and played the saxophone, piano, and guitar. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for over 60 years. She was a Relief Society teacher, cub scout leader, 4-H leader, and coached girls softball. She and her husband were members of the Farr West Misfits Club since 1947. Irene bowled for 41 years and won many trophies. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Weber State basketball and watching the Utah Jazz. She loved crossword puzzles and playing Pinochle with husband and friends. In her younger years she went on the annual Utah deer hunt with Stan and packed a 30-30 rifle.
Irene is survived by her children, L. Elaine Miller of Roy; Dennis C. (Christine) Groberg of Lake Villa, IL; Connie R. (Alan) Hepford of Colorado Springs CO; Sheron Leyba of Hooper; Debra Buxton of Eden; and Douglas P. Groberg of Farr West, 32 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by brother, Melbourne Grow of Deweyville; sister, Donna Larsen of Woods Cross; and sister-in-law, Alice Grow of Huntsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley R. Groberg; two special great-grandchildren, Kaybree and Paxton Jablonski; daughter-in-law, Karen Groberg; son-in-law, Stephen Crowley; and her brothers, Randall Grow, Moyer Grow, and Craig Grow.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Farr West 1st Ward, 1800 West 1800 North. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
