Irene Caroline Walker Leishman 1900-2009

Irene Caroline Walker Leishman was born July 25, 1900 to Samuel Walker and Rose Letica Brown in Rocklin, CA. As an infant she moved to Ogden Utah where she was reared and educated. Irene was married to James Henry Leishman in 1920 and in the 1930''s moved to Los Angeles CA with her husband and daughter Marian. In 1990 she returned to Utah.

Irene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Relief Society and helping with hand-craft projects for many years. She loved to play bridge and especially enjoyed shopping.

She was member of the Governors Century Club for seven years and was honored as the oldest living Utahan in June 2008. Irene was three years old when Wilbur and Orville Wright made aviation history. She remembers the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. She was a teenager during World War I and a young wife and mother during the Great Depression and World War II. She marveled at the increasing greatness of the United States through these many years.

Irene is survived by two grandchildren, Julianne Grant of Bountiful, UT and Jill Dilbert of Sacramento, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son-in-law Marian and John Grant; three sisters, Lettie, Leona, and Laura and one brother, Jess.

Irene lived the last year of her life at Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, UT where she made friends with everyone and loved them all. Her family sincerely thanks Avalon for taking such good care of her and all who made her last year so special.

Irene was a beautiful and elegant lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held 4:30 pm Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. where friends may call from 4:00-4:30 pm prior to the services. Interment11 am Friday, May 1, 2009 Green Hills Cemetery, San Pedro, CA.
