My sweetheart of 65 years and mother of five returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on the beautiful morning of September 28th, 2011. She was greeted by her daughter and many loved ones, family and friends on the other side.
Irene Johanson Millgate, age 84, arrived on June 29, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert Francis Johanson and Lillian Bird Johanson. She lived her whole life in Utah and graduated from Granite High.
She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Ernest B. Millgate, on October 6, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had a marriage full of devotion, love, and happiness. Their family is their most prized possession. Every grandchild shared vacations and memories with them. She exemplified her role as a woman, mother and homemaker. Their home was a happy place.
Irene was one of the first JC-ettes, PTA member and in the Buzzin Dozen.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She shared her strong testimony in her many Relief Society and Sunday School callings.
Irene is survived by her husband, Ernie, daughters, Carol Derry, Peggy Jean (Doug) Mathis, Lori Everett, son, Ernie (Sharon), sister, Marcella Robinson, brother, Jerry Johanson, 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Erlynn, son-in-law, Richard Derry, and one great grandson, Jarom Nelson.
Special thanks to Dr. Darin Checketts and his staff, Inspiration Hospice, and the Family Tree.
