Iris Nance Dalton 1926-2011

Iris Nance Dalton, our dear mom, wife, and grandma, passed peacefully in her sleep at home the morning of December 18, 2011.

Iris was born May 27, 1926 in Kaysville, Utah, the sixth of eight children born to Gilbert L. and Merritt McLatchie Nance. She grew up in Kaysville, but for the past 41 years her home has been Bountiful.

Iris was blessed with a remarkably beautiful contralto voice. As early as fifth grade she began to share her singing at numerous school events, on the radio, in countless church services and even for wounded soldiers during World War II. She taught herself to play the piano, but trained vocally at Utah State University, The McCune School of Music and Art and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 1947 she performed in the centennial production of "Promised Valley." She was privileged to be a member of the Ralph Woodward Chorale in Provo for five years, 1965-1970.

Having met the love of her life, she married Jack J. Dalton on Nov. 26, 1949. Together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. The joy of her life was being a wife and mother. She stayed at home to raise her three children, 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed golfing, skiing and bowling; but spent many years faithfully attending the activities of her grandchildren. She cherished extended family relationships and made every effort to keep those abiding.

Her devotion and love will always remain with her surviving husband, Jack, children, Pam (Ben) Tanner, Nancy (Dave) Evans, Rick (Laurie) Dalton, grandchildren, Alex (Nicole) Tanner, Paul (JeVonne) Tanner, Brad (Jane) Tanner, Alison (Steve) Clegg, Brooke (Jason) McCoy, Lindsey (Nathan) Pfister, Brandon Evans, Courtney (Carl) Haynie, Ryan (Heather) Dalton, Abbie Dalton, Jessica Dalton and her 24 beloved great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood. Services entrusted to Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary.
