Iris E. Gardner
OGDEN - Iris Enid Claridge Gardner, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the age of 85.
She was born October 30, 1922 in Bradford Yorkshire, England to George and Mary Claridge.
Iris married her sweetheart, Jeffrey Gardner, on December 19, 1947. He preceded her in death.
Iris was a strong woman who joined the Women’s Royal Air Force. She received the Medal of Freedom and was a translator during the Nuremburg trials. She was also employed by several school districts during her working years.
Of her many talents, bunka (Japanese embroidery), was one of the things she enjoyed the most. Her home, as well as those of her family members, contains her beautiful work that will be treasured forever. She also loved to play the organ. Iris was a wonderful, warm mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She especially loved her cups of tea.
Iris is survived by her loving daughter, Carole (John) Larson; grandchildren, Deborah (Greg) Williams, Paul Larson, Melinda (Madhu) Anvekar; great-grandchildren, Derek (Chelsey) Lucero, Ryan Lucero, Mitchell Williams, Dhilan, Leela and Jayan Anvekar. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jo Gardener, of Renfrewshire, Scotland.
The influence of Iris’s life upon her daughter and grandchildren was evident during her last days as her family met with her and shared memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we know that she is happy now with Grandpa.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Alta Ridge Alzheimer’s for the love and care they showed Iris. We would also like to thank Millcreek Hospice for the care they provided Iris during her last days.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 28th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah.
Funeral Directors, Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
