“Our favorite flower”
Iris Montgomery LaFleur
OGDEN - Iris, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away
peacefully Wednesday, April l1, 2007 at a local care center of natural causes.
She was born June 10, 1927 in Liberty, Utah a loving daughter to Hyrum Harvey Montgomery and
Bessie Rhodes.
On February 14, 1946 Iris married Jack LaFleur. They had one son, Lee, who was her greatest joy.
Jack passed away May 25, 1991.
She loved fishing and camping with family and friends. Some of her fondest memories were of the
yearly family reunions and Christmas parties where they always sang together around the campfire
and Christmas tree. She and Jack, along with her sister, Verna and her husband, Garth, spent
many weekends going to the desert to hunt for “treasures”. Together she and Jack shared a love
for polishing gem stones and making beautiful jewelry. She and her sister, Verna, traveled together to
many fun and exciting places. One of her favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska with Verna and their
brother, Lynn.
Iris worked for the Utah State Tax Commission for 21 years and also worked many years as a fund raiser
for the Muscular Dystrophy and Cancer Societies.
She was a member of the Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Society, the Sweet Adeline’s, the Pink
Ladies Auxiliary and served on the board for the Union Station Natural History Museum.
Iris was a very kind and gentle lady who was loved by all who knew her. She was a very forgiving,
generous person who liked to share her crafts and talents with those she loved. She will be missed by
many friends and family members.
Including her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Neil and Blaine Montgomery.
Iris is survived by her son, Lee and his wife Pat, sister, Verna Hess, brother, Lynn (Shirley)
Montgomery, sister-in-law, Sharlene Montgomery and four granddaughters, Cecia, Libby, Sara and
Kim. Also surviving are nine beautiful great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her
nieces, Glenda Lynn and Dixie VanDyke, were the daughters she never had.
Respecting her wishes there will be a visitation at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
on Tuesday, April 17th from 12 to 1 p.m. for family and friends.
Graveside services will follow at the Liberty Cemetery.
