Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Irmgard Rochell, passed away Saturday August 31, 2024 at the age of 97. She touched many lives with her kindness and faith. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irmgard was born on February 7th, 1927, to Berta and Wilhelm Kahlbow in Bremen, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in February of 1950 where she later met Hans. They married and recently celebrated 72 years together. Together they raised two daughters in the Salt Lake City area, eventually moving to Bountiful in 1980. Once the children were grown, she worked at the Vivarium at the University of Utah for 10 years before retirement.
Irmgard was a wonderful mother. She was very talented in knitting and crocheting and used her skill to create countless gifts for others. She also seemed to have an endless supply of manicure sets that she loved to give away to friends at church, waitresses and other women that she interacted with. She was a skilled cook and loved to share recipes with her grandchildren, including her red cabbage and marble cake. Her smile and laughter were infectious and heartwarming!
Irmgard is survived by her husband Hans Rochell, daughter Connie (Charles) Sizelove, grand-children and great grand-children. She is proceeded in death by her daughter Jeanette Newport, brother Walter Kahlbow, and niece Patricia.
