Irvin Morris Smith

Irvin Morris Smith, 97, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 with family by his side. Irvin was born April 13, 1921 in Yost, Utah. He was the eldest son of Morris Albert and Evelynn (Tracy) Smith. Irvin joined the Army in March of 1941 and met of the love of his life, Jean Burt Yoder. They were later married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Irvin worked in Quality Control for the Defense Depot of Ogden where he retired in 1976. Irvin had owned his own TV repair business. He got a great work ethic from working with his father who owned the only general store in Yost, Utah. He was very good at fixing things and did many odd jobs for his family during the “Great Depression”.
He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. His favorite was sports director. He loved sports and was good at any sport he tried. He and his wife Jean loved to bowl and had the trophies to prove it. He played softball, snow skied, and golfed. He loved the outdoors and took his kids on many hiking and fishing trips. He also did volunteer work at the McKay Dee Hospital as a handyman.
Irvin is survived by his four children, Barbara (Stewart) Smith of Ogden, UT, Marian (Scott) Flint of Mountain View, WY, Judy (Chris) Hennefer of Ogden, UT, Morris (Sherrie) Smith of Ogden, UT. Irvin had another very special family in his life, David (Vickie) Hamilton and children who were extremely close to Irvin. The kids referred to him as Grandpa and he loved it. Irvin had 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Morris Albert Smith; mother, Evelynn Tracy Smith; his wife, Jean Yoder Smith; brother, Bill Smith; brothers, Owen Smith and Eugene Smith; sisters, Beatrice Durfee and Delsie Teeter; granddaughter, Toni Rogerson; and grandson, Samuel Hamilton.
The family wants Mountain Ridge Assisted living to know how much Irvin enjoyed the whole staff. They knew him well; a big thank you to Mountain Ridge from the family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
