ISAMU "SAM" ENDOW
July 8, 1926 ~ October 23, 2014
Isamu (Sam) Endow passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 23, 2014, following a brief stay at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
Sam was born July 8, 1926 in Creston, Wyoming to Kumakichi Endow and Kuma Suzuki Endow and spent most of his childhood years in various towns in Wyoming and Northern Utah.
Sam married, Yoshie (Yo) Kawaguchi in Ogden, Utah on February 20, 1955 and lived in the home in Washington Terrace that they purchased early in their 42 year marriage.
While Sam’s work included years in the family farming business and time at Kennecott Copper, he retired from the US Post Office after 34 years of service. Sam spoke fondly of his years as a postal employee and of his postal colleagues. While he didn’t boast about it, Sam and his wife, Yo, received an award for designing the mailing tube which became a common way to send delicate documents through the mail. Sam was a proud Korean War Veteran and often shared memories of his experiences as a cook while stationed throughout the U.S.
Sam will be remembered affectionately by many family members and friends as a generous spirit who offered guidance and support without question. Sam was a skilled handy-man, an amateur photographer, an avid Utah Jazz and New York Yankees fan, actively surfed the internet daily for breaking news, and especially enjoyed his Diet Coke.
Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yoshie, and siblings Emiko, Yoshiko (Josephine), Toshie, and Takeshi (Bill). He is survived by his sisters Kazuko Endow Morimoto and Chizuko Endow Kawaguchi, and children Greg (Daryl Ragan) and Tami Endow, grand dog Cooper, many nieces and nephews, and his companion Kiyoko Olsen and her son Donald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Sam’s physician, Dr. Clyde Faucett, the many friends and neighbors who provided special caring friendship during Sam’s senior years, and the Ogden Regional Medical Center and Access Hospice nurses who cared for Sam during his final days.
