Isla Fawn Goodling Long, age 97, of Ogden, Utah, received her call to Heaven on March 30, 2023 at approximately 5:00 am, with her family by her side. She passed away peacefully in her home. Her death was the result of congestive heart failure. Born on September 25, 1925, in Elizabethtown, PA, Isla was the sixth of fourteen children born to the late Charles E. and Mary A. (Krissinger) Goodling.
She grew up on East High Street in Elizabethtown and attended Elizabethtown High School. She was a welder during World War II and worked at Continental Press in Elizabethtown. She married the late Joseph Henry Long on November 30, 1946, at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. She was a wife and a mother to the couple’s five children as well as a devout Christian. She accompanied her husband to Ogden, Utah, in 1965 where she worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
Isla will be lovingly missed by her daughters Nadine Bonnie Long Roberts (Larry) of Haymarket, VA; Judy Ann Long of Ogden, UT; sons, Joseph Henry Long II; Dennis Michael Long of Layton, UT, and daughter-in-law Linda Fae Long Poole (Dick) of Ogden, UT. She leaves behind grandchildren Robert Brandon Long (Bobbie Davis) of Ogden, UT; April Nicole Long of Ogden, UT; Michael Joseph Roberts of Tokyo, Japan; David Matthew Roberts (Stephanie) of Stephenson, VA; Colten Michael Long of Ogden, UT; Brittany Michelle Long of Layton, UT; Susan Michelle Roberts of Warrenton, VA; and Joseph Elton Crosby of Bellingham, WA. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Isla Ryan Long, Robert Emerson Long, and Carlye Rae Davis of Ogden, UT; Fletcher James David Crosby of Bellingham, WA; and Rosie Isla Roberts of Stephenson, VA. The life and times of Isla will be affectionately remembered by her sister Lois Minerva Conley (Robert) of Elizabethtown, PA; her brothers Charles (Junie) Goodling Jr; Albert (Bert) Goodling; and James Goodling (Bonnie), all of Elizabethtown, PA. In January 2005, her husband of 59 years, Joseph, went home to be with the Lord while Isla was by his side. She is also preceded in death by sisters Rheba Leonard; Arline “Ginger” Kuhn, Velva “Sally” Boylan, and Helen Goodling; and brothers Alton “Red”, Paul, Ken, and David Goodling. Her beloved eldest son Robert “Bob” Elton Long also preceded her in death.
The family warmly thanks the people of Berean Baptist Church of Ogden, UT, the nurses, aides, and care team of Hospice and Simbii as well as those who have loved the family through prayer, visits, phone calls, cards, meals, and other acts of support during this difficult time.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 15th at 11a.m. at Berean Baptist Church, 3846 Jackson Avenue, Ogden, UT, 84403. Friends may visit with the family from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
