Itha Rae Van Sickle Gardner Reeves

RIVERDALE, UT a€" Itha Rae Van Sickle Gardner Reeves, 85, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012. She was born October 3, 1926 in Ashton, Idaho. She was the seventh child of twelve, born to Walter Wavern and Hattie Estelle Schofield Van Sickle. She married Russell Gardner in 1945. Together they had one daughter, Lynne. They were later divorced. She married Glenn Reeves in 1967. They were later divorced.

Rae, as she preferred to be called, was raised and educated in Ashton, Idaho, graduating from Ashton High School in 1944. The day after graduating high school, Rae and three of her close friends moved to Ogden, Utah. They had been recruited to fill Civil Service positions with the United States Air Force at Hill Field. Rae went on to have a very successful career at Hill AFB, retiring in 1979 with 35 years of service. She made many friends throughout her years at Hill AFB, some lasted beyond her retirement.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren more than anything. She was also a loving sister. The times she spent with her six sisters were filled with laughter, stories, and delicious home cooked meals.

Rae loved music. Music from a time gone by; Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Perry Como, and Ray Conniff, just to name a few. Any time you went to her house, she had music playing. And she loved to read. You could usually find her sitting in her chair reading a book. Music and books were her constant companions.

Rae is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Richard) Driggs, Riverdale, UT, three grandchildren, Doug Chacon, Darcy (Shane) Lessley, and Randi (Adam) Liddle, nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jeana Trease, Pat Young, Peggy Young, and Sherry Bliven, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Melva Hainsworth and Ruth Vanderpool and five brothers, Mac, Jack, Glee, Don, and Doug Van Sickle.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
