In the game of life, Iva Roberta Williams Larsen was an active participant, never happy to be sidelined or sitting on the bench. She entered the game on October 14, 1924, making it safely to George Williams and Pearl Ada Bramwell in South Weber where she joined a large team of many brothers and sisters who have all preceded her past home plate, except for two brothers who are still on deck.
On September 6, 1943, she married her eternal partner and coach, Glendon Spring Larsen, who crossed home plate on April 4, 2005, but has been waving her in ever since. After their marriage, they settled in Roy after Glen served in WWII. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life. She served in the Roy 4th Ward around 60 years.
During her time in Roy, she added six daughters to her team: Janice Larsen Oleson, Pauline Larsen Souter, Sandy Larsen Skeen, LaRae Larsen Parry, Tina Larsen, and Karen Larsen Anderson who are still playing the game. Iva/Mom was happy when she got five sons-in-law, Ron, Bob, Todd, Brian, Ron and was thrilled when several grandchildren and great-grandchildren were eventually added to make her team unstoppable. Throughout the rest of her life, she dedicated herself to cheering everyone to victory, no matter the cost to her a" such as being thrown out of games, being banned from ballparks, being blacklisted from referees, etc.
Iva would have received the MVP award for an active life lived. She received the prestigious Silver Bowl award for many years of voluntary service at several elementary schools. She was not only her grandchildren''s biggest cheerleader; she was BYU''s biggest fan. She was famous for the jokes she told and will be remembered fondly for making all her team members laugh when the game of life got too hard or serious. She not only scored high with players but with officiating as well. She scored extra runs with the beautiful porcelain dolls she made and the many jigsaw puzzles that she put together after she suffered a stroke, refusing to be sidelined.
Our mother played the game with her might, mind and strength, hitting a home-run on March 21, 2013. Yay! Way to go, Mom, Grandma a" you won the game! We can only hope to play the game as well as you did. The family would like to give special thanks to Ellen from Essential Care and Tara from Harmony Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the mortuary.
