Ivan Walter Flint

Ivan Walter Flint concluded an extraordinary earthly life on August 27, 2017 at the age of 87.  He was an enamored husband, exemplary father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was the epitome of one who had selfless interest in others.  The consummate family man, he was a revered patriarch, uncle, neighbor, and friend.

A son of Walter E. and Artie Josephine Flint, whom he adored, Ivan was raised on Flint Street in Kaysville, Utah on the humble family farm.  With the loss of his father at age 16, he was left to run the farm with his mother. Consequently, hard work, education, and family values were the guiding principles which underlined his approach to life and his family guidance.  Early on, he married Shirley Walker of Layton, and they later divorced.

He is survived by Marlene Peterson Flint, whom he married 56 years ago, and who in his words, was "the best and most beautiful woman anyone could marry."  As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the family was sealed in the Bountiful Temple.  Without exception, every single time one of his sons entered the room, Ivan's face lit up.  The same reaction continued for every one of his daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his sons, Blaine W. Flint (Carolyn), Tage I. Flint (Lisa), and Wade P. Flint (Sheryl), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, all three siblings, and his dear granddaughter, Tennille Flint.

Ivan was a fixture in the community and held countless positions in community service.  A lifelong resident of Kaysville, he attended Davis High School, Weber State College, and Air Force/Navy/NASA schools of management and procurement.  He worked 25 years for the U.S. Air Force and Defense Contract Administration Service, which forged his lifelong appreciation for those who serve in the Armed Forces.  In 1974, Ivan joined Weber Basin Water Conservancy District where he was Assistant General Manager for 11 years followed by serving as General Manager/CEO for 16 years.  Well respected in the water industry throughout the nation, Ivan served as President of the National Water Resources Association, director of American Water Works Association, multiple local and state water boards, Davis and Weber Chambers of Commerce, and the Davis Hospital Medical Center Board.  Among countless awards, he is the recipient of the NWRA Lifetime Service Award, an AWWA Honorary Member, and Davis Chamber Legacy Awardee.  He treasured the time he spent as a post-retirement advisor to Governors Michael O. Leavitt and Olene S. Walker.

Daily, he told stories about so many of his family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.  We know no one who could weave a story that included so many people and details but still conclude with the intended message. The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Robert Stephenson and entire staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who provided tremendous cancer care for nearly a decade and the management, nurses, and doctors at the Davis Medical Center.  He adored so many members of the Flint Meadows Ward and treasured his associations with each of you.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Stake Center, 615 N. Flint Street, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main Street and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
