KAYSVILLE a€" J. Sterling Rose was born March 13, 1917 to John Henry and Hilma Forsberg Rose in Richville, Utah. Sterling lived in Richville helping on the family farm and attending the Morgan County schools. He graduated from Morgan High School where he was Student Body President and lettered in football and basketball. He then attended Weber College and graduated from Utah State University. He filled a mission to the Eastern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was a District Leader. On February 14, 1944 he married Mildred Elizabeth Saxey in the Salt Lake Temple. Sterling was a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific in the Merchant Marines. He served as Chief Steward on various ships. Upon his return, he worked for the Paramount Dairy and Ice Cream Company as Manager of Quality Control. In 1964 he moved to Denver. He was the recipient of the Putnum Award for outstanding contribution to the food industry. Sterling received a patent for his invention of the "Contact It" bacteriological sampling method. In 1982, he returned to Utah and worked part time as a consultant for Birko Corporation. He didn''t fully retire until 1997 at the age of 80. Sterling has always been a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many ward and stake positions. He was the Second Counselor, First Counselor, and Bishop of the Ogden 36th Ward. He was in the Stake High Priest''s Presidency of the Mount Ogden Stake. He served two stake missions and was a Stake Sunday School President in two stakes. He was a regular temple attendee for many years. Sterling was loved by all who associated with him. He was known for his quiet, thoughtful, honest, and loving nature by his family, business associates and friends. He loved sports and enjoyed fishing, hiking and golf. He is survived by his wife Mildred, his daughter Kristine Barrett of Fort Collins, Colorado and Dr. Paul S. Rose (Becky) of Fruit Heights, Utah, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield, Road.
