JACK J. DALTON
1922-2014
Jack J. Dalton died peacefully in his home in Bountiful, Utah on September 27, 2014 after living a full and wonderful life. He was born on July 29, 1922 in Los Angeles, CA to Walter C. Dalton and Myrtle Knudsen. He married Iris Nance on November 26, 1949 and shared 62 years of devoted marriage.
Jack was raised in Ogden, Utah and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado. He served five years in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific and the Korean War as a First Lieutenant. Following the war he worked 37 years for Mountain Bell. While in Provo, Utah he received BYU's first Outstanding Businessman of the Year Award and raised funds for the LaVell Edwards Stadium and Marriott Center. He was the Director of Provo Rotary and the Provo Chamber of Commerce. He helped organize and served as the first President of the Utah County United Way. He was the Director and Vice-President of Riverside Country Club in Provo. After moving to Bountiful, he was the President of the Exchange Club in Salt Lake City. He remained a true friend to many throughout his life.
He enjoyed many, great years of skiing, golfing, duck hunting and watching college football games--all with his family. Children were attracted to him, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of his life. When those little children ran to him with open arms for a hug, he was always known to say, "That's worth more than a million dollars!" and he lived his life to show it.
Our dad left a legacy of love, integrity and example with the gift of time for his family that will be forever treasured by his children, Pam (Ben) Tanner, Nancy (Dave) Evans, Rick (Laurie) Dalton, grandchildren, Alex (Nicole) Tanner, Paul (JeVonne) Tanner, Brad (Jane ) Tanner, Alison (Steve) Clegg, Brooke (Jason) McCoy, Lindsey (Nathan) Pfister, Brandon (Alvhild) Evans, Courtney (Carl) Haynie, Ryan (Heather) Dalton, Abbie Dalton, Jessica (Jason) Anderson and his 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Iris, nearly 3 years ago, and his sister, Dorthea, (Richard) Stine.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood. Services entrusted to Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary.
