Jack Woodbury Luddington

Our beloved son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend returned to his Heavenly home on Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Jack Woodbury Luddington was born on July 17, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. He was the third child born to Harold Farley and Frances Woodbury Luddington.

He was LDS and a seminary graduate. He earned his Eagle Scout at age 13. He was a proud alumni of Ogden High School''s class of 1965. He went on to earn a BS degree from Weber State College in 1975. He valued education and encouraged the pursuit of it.

Jack loved his country and servicemen of all nations. He had a deep respect for military personnel and was proud to be a member of the US Army and a civil service employee. He was a decorated war hero belonging to the 7th Cavalry while honorably serving in Vietnam. His war service earned him the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star among many other commendations and medals. Jack''s experiences in Vietnam had a lasting effect on him. He valued the relations he made while serving in the war and it would be fair to say that he left a part of himself there.

He continued his military career by spending 20+ years with the 19th Special Forces where he served with two of his sons and a brother. In addition, he worked as the night shift supervisor for H.A.F.B. landing gear department. He retired from both.

His childhood, work and military friends were a big part of his life and brought him much joy and happiness. In truth, Jack was a fierce and loyal friend; his "buddies" meant a lot to him and he would do anything for them. He loved and cherished the friendships he made everywhere he went.

Jack married Vivian Spiers in 1969. Together, they had four children Brett (Noelle) Luddington, Kelly (Melanie) Luddington, Jason Luddington and Lisa Luddington. Even though they later divorced, they remained good friends. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was always generous with his praise and encouragement, his hugs and positive attitude. He loved to pass on his wisdom and greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He taught us all many important things and his presence will forever be missed.

He loved people, he loved to offer assistance, and he was quick with a smile. His "door was always open". He loved the outdoors; he was a beautiful snow and water skier. He worked on several programs that allowed the disabled to be able to ski and he learned sign language to better communicate with the deaf. He loved camping, boating, and hunting and anything that took him into nature. He was a beloved scoutmaster and greatly enjoyed serving in that capacity and working with all the young men and teaching them.

Jack is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, mother Frances, and siblings David Luddington, LeeAnn (Mike) Daz, Mary (Don) Simpson, and Mark (Jeannie) Luddington.

He was preceded in death by his father Harold Luddington, his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and friends, indeed his reunion on high will be glorious.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
