Jack Lee Smith, 80, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009.
He was born May 5, 1929 in Ogden, Utah to Paul and Cleone Thompson Smith. He was a track star at Ogden High school and held state records. He also excelled in football.
He served in the US Navy as a Gunners Mate during the Korean War.
On September 27, 1950, Jack married Bethine Baker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1999.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a High Priest and served as finance clerk for many years.
He retired from the railroad after 45 years of service and also from the IRS with 22 years of service.
Jack enjoyed gardening and sports. He was a season ticket holder to BYU football games for over 20 years and WSU basketball season ticket holder. One of the highlights in his life was attending four different NCAA final four playoffs with his wife and sweetheart, Bethine.
He had no prejudices and treated everyone with respect. He always loved the little children in his life. He raised four children and helped raise many of his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by a son, Bob Lee Smith; three daughters, Marsha Audrene (Keith) Williams, Lori Ann Penrod, Jackie Lynette Martinez; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald Duane Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Paul Eugene Smith.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
