Jacqueline “Jackie” Maxwell

February 16, 1925 ~ March 19, 2015

Jacqueline “Jackie” Maxwell, 90, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015.  Jackie was born on February, 16, 1925 in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Leith James and Ida Birch Corbridge.

She married Albert Maxwell, the love of her life, on October 17, 1946.

Jackie dedicated her early years to music. She was lucky enough to share this passion with beloved, lifelong friends: June Heiser, Jane Leventon, Betty Erickson, and Donnell Seashore.  The vocal ensemble came to be known as The Symphonettes. They performed for years on their own radio program and maintained a busy performance schedule. Jackie was especially fond of the years she was able to participate in Roland Perry’s “ All Faces West ”, a local musical production depicting the Mormon pioneer trek.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served for years as a Stake and Ward Chorister. She had a profound love for the Stake Women’s Choir she directed and was extremely dedicated to both her ward and stake choirs.

Jackie spent her life devoted to the service of others.  She spent the majority of her life as a caregiver attending to the fragile health of her mother and two of her children, whom she lost to congenital heart failure.  She later cared for her husband, Al, through his 6-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Her husband’s illness, and subsequent death, led to a decade of involvement as an advocate and spokesperson for the National Association of Radiation Survivors.  Jackie addressed Congressional committees on two different occasions representing families of veterans and others exposed to ionizing radiation.  Her testimony was instrumental in the passing of legislation, which would eventually compensate both veterans and civilians for radiation-induced health issues.  She was tireless in her devotion and dedication to the welfare of others.

Jackie was a voracious reader and an avid history buff.  She enjoyed people and was quick to laugh. Jackie’s courage was evidenced every day in the face of severely compromised health. Her positive attitude, humor, generosity, and consideration for others inspired all those who knew her.  She was a devoted friend, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of love.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Robin (Mark) Stephens; three grandchildren, Taylor (Kristan), Hunter, and Killian, and two great-granddaughters, Remi Ella and Adalie Quinn.  She is also survived by two nieces, and one nephew.  Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband, four children, parents, and beloved brother.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
