Jaleen Stauffer
On Sunday January 3, 2010 Jaleen Harris Stauffer, 70, died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Bountiful, Utah.
Jaleen was born January 12, 1939 in Tremonton, Utah to Leland Robert Harris and Mildred Mary Millis. She was the oldest of four children, and enjoyed helping her father on the family farm, moving sprinkler pipe. She had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1957. She then attended Utah State where she met Norman Earl Stauffer, Jr., of Providence, and they were married on August 3, 1960 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were looking forward to celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary this summer. They had three children: Carrie, Rodney and Jeffrey; and after several years of moving back and forth across the country while Norm worked at Boeing and Montana State University, they settled in Bountiful, Utah in 1970.
Jaleen graduated from Utah State University in Math Education in 1961 and taught math at the old Logan Junior High School. After Rodney’s death from cancer at age 12, she returned to school and graduated from Brigham Young University’s nursing school as a Registered Nurse (RN). She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for the Festival of Trees. She taught Jr. Sunday School in Alabama, and taught Primary for several years in Bountiful. She loved serving in Cub Scouts and passing on her passion for music through teaching piano for many years.
Jaleen was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Bountiful Squadron from 1981 to present. She served as Medical Officer, Emergency Services Officer, and the Aerospace Education Officer. She received the Aerospace Education Officer of the Year Award for both the Utah Wing and Rocky Mountain Region in 2006. She enjoyed sailing hobbie cats on Bear Lake, and setting up her Christmas Village that has grown to cover the entire living room. She loved life and was always up for an adventure, whether it was a trip to Mexico, visiting her sister in Canada, or a Caribbean cruise with her high school 50th reunion (something they all enjoyed so much they did it again the next year). She especially loved her family and bragging about her children and grandchildren. She was so excited that all 16 of us were able to be together and celebrate this past December.
She is preceded in death by her parents and son, Rodney Harris Stauffer. She is survived by her husband, Norm; siblings Barbara Bailey of Murray, Claudia (Alvin) Johnston of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada, and Robert (Mary) Harris currently serving in the Italy Catania mission; two children: Carrie (Neil) Dabb of Logan, and Jeffrey (Jill) Stauffer of Monmouth, Oregon; and ten grandchildren (seven granddaughters, two grandsons, a new grandson-in-law, as well as several ‘adopted’ grandchildren). Her first great-grandchild is due in July.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Bountiful 54th Ward Chapel , 540 N. 1200 E. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Sat. from 9:45 – 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
