James Harvey Brough
“A man without guile”
James Harvey Brough passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on November 14, 2017 at the age of 86.
Jim was born May 27, 1931 in Kaysville, Utah to Benjamin Orlo Brough and Doritt Harvey.
As a child growing up near Kaysville Elementary, Jim would wait for the first bell to ring, then run from home to school. He learned to work hard as a farm boy, with an occasional dip in the Haights Creek reservoir to wash off the hay dust. He graduated from Davis High School in 1949. He went on to attend Weber College until he was called on a mission to the Eastern States Mission. On returning, he looked up a childhood friend, Jeanette Todd, and they were married a year later in the Salt Lake Temple. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, and he and Jeanette ended up in Germany from 1954-1955. They returned to Kaysville where they settled and raised their five children.
Jim loved sports and traveling with his family and with Jeanette. Jim loved people, and people loved him. Jim founded Brough Realty and was active in the community, politics and served as an LDS Bishop and Stake Patriarch.
Jim was one of nine children. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette: one sister, Vilate McDonald; children, Sherri (Randy) Farr, Steven (Jarolen), Kathy (Bryan) Harvey, Kevin (Tina), Ben (Carrie), Brazilian daughter Mari (Lane) Hadley. Preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Pearl Goodson, BenOrlo, Mary, Rebecca Hilton, Grant Harvey, Eleanor Huff, and Evelyn.
Jim is the grandfather of 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Thank you to Horizon Hospice with a special thanks to Debbie and Shelly.
