SYRACUSE a€" Our loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2010, surrounded by his family.

James L. Carpenter was born August 25, 1936 in Alta, Iowa to Harold F. and Evelyn F. Keith Carpenter.

Jim married his sweetheart, Laura L. Lindquist on December 18, 1956 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Together they raised three daughters and one son.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy. Jim had been employed by Sylvania, Hill AFB, owned Candy Campus in Layton and operated his own trucking company for more than 20 years.

Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura; daughters, Julie (Kelly) Rose; Joni (Brad) Bubak; and Jan (Jeff) Gretzner. He also leaves behind his mother, Evelyn; sister, Janet Mounts; grandchildren Amanda, Wyatt, Sharvel, Kyle, Dyln and Shayne; and great-grandchildren Taeler, Aden and Kesler.

Jim is preceded in death by his father, Harold and son, Chet James.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
