James Albert Carter
WASHINGTON TERRACE a" James Albert Carter went peacefully home to be with his sweetheart on Monday Valentines'' Day, February 14, 2011.
Born February 4, 1931 in Santaquin, Utah, to Orsen and Eva Carter, he attended schools in Santaquin, and Payson and enjoyed living his childhood summers at Strawberry Reservoir.
He entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict with a deep commitment to his country.
Jim was married on June 19, 1951 to LoRene Coombs in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2010.
He was honored to serve the Lord in many leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Bishop and Stake President. He and his wife also served a service mission at the employment center. Church members and non-members alike enriched his life.
He retired as the Chief of the Traffic Branch in the Directorate of Distribution at Hill Air Force Base.
Jim was devoted to his family and made it a point to attend every event his children participated in. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an expert fisherman both with a pole and without.
He is survived by his four children, Brent (Becky) Carter, Cindy (Greg) Garfield, Lisa (Tim) Shurtleff and Kelly (Keri) Carter, 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one grandson.
The family wants to express appreciation to the family and friends who enriched his life to the very end. A special thanks to Vista Care Hospice, especially Cynthia and Amber, for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Washington Terrace 10th Ward Chapel, 125 East 5350 South, with Bishop Rick Wade officiating.
Family will meet friends at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
