James “Jim” Joseph Cologna

October 19, 1935 ~ December 23, 2014

On the afternoon of December 23, 2014, James “Jim” Joseph Cologna, long-time resident of Ogden, Utah, returned to the loving embrace of his father, losing his valiant fight against respiratory disease with his loving and devoted wife who was always by his side.

Jim was born on October 19, 1935 in Reliance, WY to Max and Pierina Cologna and later moved to West Weber, UT where he and his family worked their farm.

He honorably served his country as an enlisted member of the U.S. Army.

In 1961 he met and married Carol Nicolaides in Ogden, UT.  Together they had two daughters, Therese Fowler and Susan Cologna.

Jim Cologna spent most of his life as an Operating Engineer, crane operator and dispatcher in the construction business but also had other entrepreneurial endeavors throughout his life.

The Cologna family attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and he was very active in the Ogden community, working as a drug and alcohol coordinator with the Operating Engineers.

His family and friends will remember him as a man who always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a witty response in any situation.  He had a genuine willingness to go out of his way to help anyone he encountered.

He was an energetic member and an officer in the local Italian Trentini community and was able to visit his homeland relatives of Fondo, Italy with his family. In 2011 Jim and his wife Carol celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in Hawaii with their children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 53 years; his brothers, Max and his wife Jackie, Rudy and his wife Kate, and Dan and his wife Darlene; and his sister, Rita and her husband Doug DeHaven; his daughters, Therese and her husband Dr. Jeff Fowler and Susan her husband Jimmy Kalb; and his seven grandchildren, Gabrielle and her husband Kevin and their soon-to-be daughter, Alex, Alexa, Audrey, Mossimo, Mia and Olivia.

His family would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Dennis Law, Tom Ketts, and Maryanne Lane for all their kindness and generosity.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 24 th , Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.    Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
