James K Dowdle

James K Dowdle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from liver disease. He was born on April 2 ,1950 in Ogden, Utah to Warren B. Dowdle and Clara Ellis Dowdle. He was raised in Layton. He graduated from Davis High School, and received an Associate Degree from Weber State University,

 James served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He continued his service to his country for an additional twenty two years in the Navy Construction Battalion known as the Seabees.

 While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, he married Ellen Marie Latta. Ellen died in an auto/pedestrian accident. James married Terry Lynn Gates on August 19, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent forty seven years raising a family and creating memories together.

 James worked several jobs in construction and the Defense Depot in Ogden before his employment at Hill Air Force Base. In his thirty seven years at the base, he held several job titles which involved aircraft maintenance.

 James was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in his callings and providing service to others. He loved being involved in the scouting program. Over the years, he attended many scout trainings and received advancements including The Order of the Arrow. He attended many scout camps helping scouts earn merit badges and advance to Eagle Scouts.

 He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, and loved to make people laugh with his jokes. He lived a life of service to his family, his faith, and his country. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his strong work ethic, generous nature, and fun disposition.

 Survived by his wife, his children; Emily (Bart) Boren, Judith (Trent) Sweat, Ryan (Katherine) Dowdle, Jamie Frary, Nathan (Erin) Dowdle, his sisters; Shree (Alan) Nance, Erlene Tanner, brothers; Ben Dowdle, Greg (Virginia) Dowdle, Brad, Dowdle, and Fred (Jenny) Dowdle, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

 Preceded by his parents, sister, Cora Brewer, and brother, Patrick Dowdle, and great-grandson Andrew Griebel.

 Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

 Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
