James Virgil Hicks

James Virgil Hicks Jr., 91, of Ogden, Utah passed away on May 19, 2023.

He was born January 10, 1932 to James Virgil Hicks and Anna Alberts. He was the oldest of five children. He grew up in Ogden, and later graduated Ogden High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 at the age of 19, serving of the U.S.S. Philip as a radioman second class. He later served on the U.S.S. Kidd during the Korean War.

James married Artis Marshall of Ogden, Utah. Together they had three children- James Rodney Hicks, Mikel Curtis Hicks, and Barri Hicks. They later divorced.

He held various jobs throughout his lifetime including being a Detective for Ogden City Police Department, as a TV and radio repairman, autobody repair specialist, and a courier for Wells Fargo.

James was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also for the last several years served in the Veterans Association as a Golden Vet.

James is survived by his children James Rodney and Barri; sister, Sharon Austin; seven grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents, and his son Mikel.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist‘s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, where full military honors will be accorded.
