James “Jim” Herbert DeVine, II, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from complications of heart disease.
He was born March 15, 1941 to Marjorie (Toole) and James Maloney DeVine. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden, where he attended Ogden High School and Weber State College.
Jim joined the US Marine Corps and served in Europe and Vietnam. Upon his discharge, he took over the family business, Western Gateway Storage, and grew it into a thriving enterprise.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Ogden Duck Club and served as president. Later he hiked daily in the foothills and Malan Basin with his beloved dogs, Chuck and Charlie. Jim delighted in listening to jazz and Big Band music.
Many local charities and causes benefited from his quiet support. He donated time, money and warehouse facilities as needed. Jim served on the Board of the Marshall White Center and the advisory committee of the John M. Browning Museum at Ogden Station. He was a loyal member of the 25th Street “Coffee Irregulars”.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mayte, daughter Jacqui, grandson Jansen Reuther and sister Stephanie (Mrs. Alex Finlay).
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family will meet with friends Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
