Jim passed away August 25, 2023 at his home in Ogden, Utah. He was born August 5, 1939 in Sigurd, Utah (in the front bedroom of a family member’s home) to Andrew Herold and Mary Anna Barnhurst Allen. He was the youngest of seven children, six sisters and grew up in Antimony, Utah. He helped his family on their two acres and worked on various farms throughout the valley. He participated in FFA in high school and later served his country for two years in the US Army where he earned the sharp shooter award.
He worked at the sawmill in Panguitch, Utah and after an accident he moved north to Clearfield and found work with American Nutrition in 1972 and was the maintenance mechanic and much more. He traveled to various plants across the US helping to acquire equipment and get it set up and running. Jim worked there until he retired.
Though he never married or had children of his own, Jim was a great son, brother, uncle, and friend and helped his parents throughout their lives. He was a skilled mechanic and worked on almost anything that had a motor, metal and used wrenches. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and exploring, hotrods, motorcycles, guns and photography and he could talk about them for hours using many terms and phrases unique to him. In his later years Jim spent his winters in Arizona where he developed a great love for the desert. Jim was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jim is survived by his sister, Elva Marie Owens and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.
Jim had many great friends and neighbors over the years whom he would love to meet and hear about that side of his life.
