James Alfred Kent "1919 a" 2011"
James Alfred Kent, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away March 4, 2011, of natural causes in Bountiful, Utah at age 91. He was born to Frederick Wallace Kent and Clara Rebecca Hartman on March 28, 1919, in Iowa City, Iowa. He will be long remembered for his kindness and generosity, sterling character and absolute honesty, unfailing sense of humor, and great love for his family. Jim pursued a photographic career with the University of Iowa, after serving in the U.S. Army Photographic Corps during WWII. He met the love of his life, Cloy Paulson, while they both worked at Eastman Kodak in Salt Lake City. Cloy became a renowned portrait artist; they combined their talents to create beautiful art and a large circle of friends throughout the world. He retired as Director of the University of Iowa Dental School Audio Visual Department. They then moved to Bountiful, Utah, in 1985, where they enjoyed many happy years living near their children. Jim is survived by six children: Janet Kent of Eagle, Idaho; Susan (Larry) Witkowski of N. Salt Lake, Utah; Robert (Deidre) Kent of Bellingham, Washington; Patricia (Grover) Marsh of Centerville, Utah; John (Janice) Kent of Woodland Hills, Utah; and David (Carol) Kent of Eagle, Idaho. A seventh child, Elizabeth, died shortly after birth. Jim also leaves 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (two more are on the way). He is also survived by his two brothers Chuck (Helen) and Tom Kent, both of Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cloy; his parents; and his sister Barbara Greenleaf Buckley. He will be greatly missed. The Kent family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heritage Place for their loving and dedicated care of our dad the last four years of his life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 East, preceded by a viewing from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow immediately afterward at the Centerville City Cemetery.
