On March 26, 2024 James Edward Larkin (Jim) at the age of 67 passed away peacefully in Layton, Utah. He was born on April 19, 1956 to his parents James and Ella Larkin in Rome, New York. Being raised in a United States Air Force family he had the experience of moving every couple of years and was able to see and enjoy many parts of our great country. He attended both Highland high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Los Alamos high school in Los Alamos, New Mexico where he graduated in 1974.
After graduation, Jim proudly joined the United States Navy where he served our country for 26 years. His stops in the Navy included Chicago, Illinois where he attended basic training; Newport, Rhode Island; Bremerton, Washington; and San Diego, California. Jim also spent a tour of duty at Midway Island. During these years he saw many parts of the world as he served on Navy vessels including the USS Stethem, USS Belleau Wood and the USS McKee. His service included the United States involvement in Vietnam and the Gulf War.
In 2000, Jim retired from the Navy and began working for 15 years with an Air Force subcontractor at Hill Air Force base. His electrical background helped him refurbish generators to be returned to active missions aboard United States aircraft.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Ella Larkin and his stepdaughter Deborah Cabey.
He is survived by his daughter Olivia Campos and husband Mike of Syracuse, Utah; his grand-children Evelyn Roberts, Camryn Campos, Kai Campos and Jayce Campos; brother Scott Larkin and wife Margaret of Los Alamos, New Mexico; nephew James Larkin (Laureana); niece Ariana Stern (Cameron) and great-niece Scottie Mae Stern.
He is also survived by the mother of his daughter Pamela Larkin of Layton, Utah; stepsons Eddie and Andrew Cabey of Salt Lake City, Utah and Ryan Cabey of Layton, Utah. His survivors also include many step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.
Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale, Utah.
