James Angus Norberg passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 26, 2025. He was born on May 10, 1932, in Salt Lake City, UT to Angus Hyrum and Katherine McAfee Norberg. His family moved to Oakland CA when he was very young. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School in January of 1950. He attended the University of California in Berkeley, then served two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Following that, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. He attended BYU and majored in accounting. There he met and married Helen May. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 9, 1959. They lived in Oakland CA and Concord CA, where their three wonderful children were born. Later they moved to Salt Lake City and lived there 46 years before moving to Syracuse UT, in 2016.
Jim was active in his ward and stake and enjoyed his career working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was director of auditing, controller, and other finance positions.
He and his wife served together when he was mission president in the Dominican Republic Santiago Mission from 1991 to 1994. Together they also served as area missionaries in Guatemala and all of Central America from 2003 to 2004. Later they served another mission in Uruguay in the temple from 2006 to 2008.
Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, his children; David Norberg, Karen (Michael) Larson, and Jeffery (Susan) Norberg as well as 7 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Angus and Katherine Norberg and two sisters, Jane who died when a few days old and Bessie Brooks.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn at 3401 South Highland Dr, Salt Lake City, UT.
