On 23 June 2019 Jim was deployed home to the Lord, his final duty station.
Jim was born on 21 March 1936 to Dorotha East Stitt and James Stitt of Ogden, Utah. From his birth, he was raised by his grandparents; Alfred Thomas East and Cora Ann Wright East. Jim was in the first graduating class of Ben Lomond High School in 1954. He entered the US Army 16 August 1954, and chose the military as his career. He married his true love, Leah Brown of Ogden, Utah 25 October 1956. Jim, Leah, and their children were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 13 October 1982.
Jim served in many capacities in the army. During his last 8 years in the US Army, he was honored to serve as Administrative Aide-de-Camp to Lieutenant Generals Glenn D. Walker, Richard T. Knowles, John H. Cushman, and M. Collier Ross, all commanders of I Corps (ROK) US Group at Camp Red Cloud (Uijungbu) Korea at different times. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
Jim is survived by his wife Leah of almost 63 years, his children Roger Melvin Stitt (Ardith Redfearn), Kathleen Stitt Rigby (S. Dru Rigby), Ralph James Stitt (Rebecca Lynn Bell), Janean Stitt Haeffele (Gregory Paul Haeffele), Roy Lynn Stitt, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren all residing in the top of Utah
~~ Mom & Dad started James East Leah Stitt Company (JELSCO). He loved cars and car shows. He also loved riding on his boat. He rarely drove the boat because he preferred to ride in the front seat so he could feel the breeze. He liked to cook, and be out in the yard. He liked to keep busy, even at 83 years old he was creating graphics and artwork on his computer. He was a Baseball Coach, Scout Master, and lived a good life.
The funeral will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 2 PM at the North Ogden 8th Ward The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel located at 1100 E 2600 N North Ogden Utah 84414. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary at 2140 N 400 E, North Ogden 84414. A viewing for family will be held preceding the funeral. Jim will make his final resting place at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
