James R. Tolman
ST. GEORGE – James Russell Tolman 90, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 in St. George, Utah.
James was born May 27, 1917 in Bountiful, Utah, the fourth of eleven children of Parley L. and Vilate Tolman.
Prior to World War II he served in the New England LDS Mission Field. On his return, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent four years with the field artillery.
While in the service, James met and married, LaRue Barney, in Fort Worth, Texas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. LaRue preceded him in death in March of 2002 after 57 years of marriage.
His love of books led to his lifetime profession as a librarian. He retired from Weber State College in 1988, after which he and LaRue spent time working with the Asian people in the Washington DC LDS Mission.
James served the LDS Church in many ward and stake callings and he also served on the Sunday School General Board.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Duane (Paulette), full time rv’ers; Max (Karen), St. George; Stanley (Lila), Silver Springs, MD: JoAnn (Clarence), Victorville, CA; Joyce (Kevin), Syracuse; Sherri (Jim), Cedar City; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jaren (Norma), Gilbert, AZ; and Jack (Elaine), Burley, ID.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas, parents, and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
